NYC crime: Body parts recovered inside apartment in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn

CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (WABC) — An investigation is underway after police recovered body parts inside an apartment in Brooklyn Wednesday.

Authorities say the initial 911 call came over around 1:40 p.m. for an apartment located at 315 Linwood Street in Cypress Hills.

It was neighbors at the apartment building who noticed a foul odor coming from the unit.

“This neighborhood is not the best neighborhood to be honest with you, but this is outrageous. Absolutely outrageous,” neighbor Lindsey Vena said. “It makes me scared to even be around here. I’m just sick.”

One resident, who did not want to show her face, said a young couple lives in the apartment.

“This is scary. I live here with my family and it’s just kind of wicked knowing that there’s somebody doing something like this where you lay your head at night,” she said.

The medical examiner and police officer didn’t get access into the unit until after 10 p.m. because they were waiting on a warrant.

Police are looking into whether the body parts are that of a male or female.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

No further details were revealed.
